MotorAve Restoration & Repair

Mark is still repairing guitars on a very limited basis. He has a core group of collectors, dealers, and players that he continues to work with. If you have a very nice or very broken guitar that you're interested in sending for repair, please contact us for an estimate.

If you plan on shipping a guitar please contact us first.

We occasionally post blogs on our MySpace page of interesting repairs. Check it out.

Before: The neck on this rare Gretsch was literally disintegrating. Pictured above: the neck after being pulled and binding and finger board removed.
After: the neck was rebuilt, re fretted, and reset- the guitar was reassembled and playable for the first time in many, many years.
Hide glue was used exclusively to rebuild this guitar. For explanation of nifty hide glue preparation see: frets.com
fingerboard extension was rebuilt in steps
this before shot of the frets tells part of the story- the 5 ply-binding had previously been repaired and was deemed unsalvageable. Also, there were chunks of ebony missing.
It's obvious how bad the fret work was, but I wish I had taken better photos of just how damaged the board was- the difference between before and after was striking.
